MOMENTUM is a series of free and paid citywide events that lifts up Greater Boston’s Creative Economy over five days. Through partnership and collaboration, MOMENTUM celebrates unapologetic dopeness, creativity, and joy across culture, arts, entertainment, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

We hope to create MOMENTUM within our communities and with creatives to spark new waves of collaboration, partnership and connection so that culture is preserved, amplified and shared.

rock her crown awards

Celebrate Black and Latina/e women/womxn across all industries who are changing the game in Culture, Entrepreneurship & Social Impact. From visionaries, executive directors, and producers, to professional athletes, poets, and influencers, this evening amplifies the crown women wear while leveling up the game of women's empowerment.

Flowers: A J Dilla Tribute

Flowers is a celebration of hip-hop, culture, and artistic innovation.

 

Honoring the legacy of J Dilla is Detroit’s own Saxappeal + the Cru supported by Boston poet and artivist Amanda Shea and Detroit-born, Boston-rooted poet and saxophonist Tim Hall. Led by two-time Grammy-nominated artist Saxappeal, audiences will be transported into a world of neck-breaking grooves and soul-nourishing sounds.

​ This program is presented in partnership with Mass Hip Hop Archive and FreeVerse, with Special thanks to the J Dilla Foundation.

FreeVerse: Roots - The Family Reunion

FreeVerse kicks off its three-day MOMENTUM events with Roots. Mirroring FreeVerse’s monthly open mics, this special event with PUMA BBOLD features three youth poets, Will Divyne, Joline Brito, and Josiehanna, and highlights local painters and poetry books.

"A Place Called Home" (ART) Exhibition Opening

A Place Called Home is a public exhibition featuring youth photographers from the Cambridge Art Center that highlights everyday Black and Brown life in Cambridge, spanning 88 years. This opening reception includes a panel discussion, music from DJ Slick Vick, and an interactive photobooth capturing family portraits, continuing the tradition of community storytelling through photography.

A dynamic conversation exploring the rising need for health advocacy across the entertainment and creative industries. This timely panel brings together artists, DJs, cultural workers, and health practitioners to hear about lived experiences of wellness, burnout, balance, and the intentional practices required to sustain a creative life. Through reflection, connection, and honest dialogue, we’ll explore how prioritizing personal wellness strengthens not only individual artists but also the cultural ecosystems we all depend on.

With Brockton’s having large Haitian and Cape Verdean populations—communities with deep cultural connections to international soccer—this watch party creates a natural opportunity for engagement, celebration, and cultural presentation. In hosting the event at Southern Comfort Bar & Grill, a newly established Black-owned restaurant in Brockton, The SoundLab aims to activate community spaces, increase local economic activity, and establish long-term collaborative programming that connects culture, business, and community impact.

BAMS Festival: play playe edition

The ultimate community recess for Boston’s neighborhoods, creatives, and families. Think board, card, and hand games, team challenges, and high-energy competitions for all ages. Play Playe includes BAMS Festival staples like Beat Feet Dance, KidChella, Vendor Village, and Soul Food Row with a fire DJ lineup featuring headliner The Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff,  with New England’s finest legendary Junior Rodigan, DJ Michelle Bee, Kelvin Sylvester, DJ Bobby Bangers, DJ Ashisha, and DJ Dex.

FreeVerse: Voice

Join FreeVerse on the KidChella stage at BAMS Festival: Play Playe Edition for VOICE. As a homage to Slam poetry, VOICE moves beyond performance and into artist development. Performances include choreopoems by Codman Academy’s Theatre Elective students.

Fuller After Dark: Crafted in Culture transforms the Fuller Craft Museum into a late-night cultural experience where art, music, and community come alive after hours. Guests move through the galleries surrounded by immersive activations, curated food offerings, and signature cocktails, all set to the sound of a live DJ. Designed to introduce new audiences to the museum, the event blends creativity and connection, offering moments that are both social and hands-on. From interactive installations to intimate creative experiences, Fuller After Dark reimagines how the museum can be experienced. It’s not just a night out — it’s an invitation to explore, engage, and be part of something evolving within Brockton’s cultural landscape.

MASS FM is a live DJ showcase series created by The SoundLab that brings together DJs from across New England for an immersive music and culture experience. Produced and recorded entirely by The SoundLab team, the series provides DJs with a platform to showcase their sound while creating a space for artists, creatives, and the community to connect through music. Episode 7 of MASS FM will take place at Southern Comfort Bar & Grill, continuing the collaboration between The SoundLab and local Black-owned businesses to drive culture, visibility, and community engagement throughout the city.

Beats, Brunch and Play

A high‑energy Sunday experience where community, creativity, and play collide. Guests enjoy a delicious brunch while DJs set the vibe with soulful, upbeat mixes. Throughout the space, interactive board games invite friendly competition, connection, and laughter. It’s a fundraiser that feels like a party — one where every moment supports the future of the BAMS Fest and the artists who make it shine.

FreeVerse: Future

The final FreeVerse MOMENTUM event turns poetry from an idea into a public cultural force. Future features live painting, an open mic, and performances from Mello Jones, Richelle Gemini, and Solfull Poetry.
